Welcome to Agape—where love is our language and legacy is our foundation.

Before the sanctuary walls, before the packed pews and powerful testimonies, Agape was a vision—a divine seed planted in the hearts of Bishop Alvin T. McNair and Pastor Sheila McNair. What began as a humble gathering has grown into a vibrant ministry that continues to transform lives through the power of faith, family, and forward movement.

At Agape, we believe in cultivating a life-changing worship experience, building authentic community, and empowering generations to grow in grace and abide in love. Our story is one of unwavering faith, God-ordained leadership, and a relentless pursuit of purpose. Each chapter reflects not only the heartbeat of our founders but also the enduring promise of God’s hand over this house.

As we move forward, we invite you to journey with us—rooted in faith, strengthened by legacy, and propelled by divine momentum.

All ABOARD—Momentum Begins in Me.

OUR STORY

On July 3, 1993, Bishop Alvin T. McNair and Pastor Sheila McNair, their children, witnessed the birthing of a ministry that would produce a powerful life-changing experience for people from every walk of life.

The first service was held at Shoney’s Inn on Garners Ferry Road. Without publication or announcement, God sent twenty-two souls to witness this delivery. Shortly after that, we were able to move into a building at 209 South Prospect Street. In 1997, Bishop McNair had a vision about the Old Carver Theatre at 1519 Harden St, prompted by the church outgrowing the 209 S. Prospect St. facility. After sharing the potential of the new facility with the members, the church got to work and acquired the property. Renovation of the property was completed in six months, and we started holding services there in the spring of 1998. As Agape continued to grow, a larger facility was necessary to accommodate the needs of the congregation. Today, Agape Church is located at 201 Plumbers Road and continues to impact its community through worship, outreach, and spiritual growth initiatives.  Over the course of our ministry, there have been many testimonies of healing, restored marriages, families being brought together, and financial prosperity.

Bishop McNair and Pastor Sheila continued to equip the body of Christ by teaching and preaching the word of God to the lost locally and abroad. They became Pastors to Pastors and their wives. Pastor Sheila birthed the Joint Supply Fellowship, which was designed as a network to build and esteem First Ladies. Bishop McNair was elevated into the office of Bishop on December 9, 2011 pm, the day UCFIC was born. The prayers of Bishop and Pastor Sheila continue to be felt even today.

On May 17, 2021, Pastor Sheila departed to be with the Lord. Agape  will never forget her profound impact on our ministry and will always cherish her warm memories , whose presence continues to live on in our hearts. The power of her prayers continues to resonate with us even today. In this same year, on November 26, 2021, we grieved the loss of our Assistant Pastor, Elder Michael Suber. We will never forget his influence on our ministry. If you ever missed a service, you were guaranteed a call from him. We will cherish his memories, “read sister Suber,” “God has been good to me.”

After conquering a global pandemic and life transitions, Bishop McNair gracefully retired as Pastor in 2022. He remains an Overseer and continues to actively build the Kingdom of God locally and internationally. Being led by God on September 25, 2022, he installed Senior Pastor Shanell McNair-Kalu and Pastor Kalu Kalu Jr. as pastors. The Kalu's are steadfastly committed to upholding the legacy of Bishop Alvin T. and Pastor Sheila McNair while remaining dedicated to teaching the gospel and helping people become rooted in faith, grow in grace, and abide in love. Under their leadership, the congregation can rest assured that the mission and vision of Agape Church will continue to thrive, guided by God, towards an even brighter, better, and greater future. All ABOARD (momentum begins in me)!
